  1. Climate change is an emergency. We have 10 years.

According to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), we only have 10 years left - 2030 - before climate change will be irreversible. This means hundreds of millions or billions of people will become refugees, face food and water shortages, droughts, fires, storms, rising sea levels, heatwaves, lost livelihoods and jobs, and conflict. Check out this Alliance for Climate Education video (40 min) to understand climate change.

This may seem overwhelming and scary but we are not helpless and we’re not giving up.

2. The Green New Deal is the best solution we have.

The Green New Deal is refocusing our country on justice, jobs, and climate together. It’s our best shot at a just transition for all communities and workers on the scale, speed, and scope of the climate crisis. It’s a resolution in the US Congress that offers a visionary set of goals as a policy framework to guide our transition to a just and green economy. Read the resolution, or our policy breakdown; watch videos and check out our toolkit or the resources page for more materials and activities.

The Green New Deal calls for:

1) 100% clean energy, transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, infrastructure and resilience;

2) guaranteed living wage union jobs with benefits, for all who want one, with economic security;

3) justice and human rights for all: universal healthcare, healthy food, clean water, affordable housing, job training, education, access to nature, and democratic control of the transition.

The Green New Deal may seem ambitious, but “we cannot and we will not accept anything less than a solution to save ourselves” (AOC).

3. We have to talk about solutions, but mainstream media focuses on politics, not substance.

Although most people are supportive of the Green New Deal policies - including conservatives - many do not understand it. This is because of the “tactical framing” impulse of the mainstream media, which focuses on politics instead of issues. Tactical framing makes us more cynical and less informed, which is the opposite of what we need. “We’re talking about the fate of the world, but the focus is still on the politics” (Carlos Maza).

as a society, We need to be able to discuss the Green new deal as a solution together - to hone our collective wisdom and keep our eyes on the prize.

4. We the People have the power to create a Green New Deal.

Even though we face many complex challenges, “homosapiens have not yet failed” (Greta). We need to be able to see the shared vision of the Green New Deal goals in many different ways, so everyone can understand it and work together to achieve it.

Therefore, Be the Green is organizing a coalition to support artists to communicate the GND to all communities through songs, games, graphics, and more. We need your help to make the GND come alive! Get Involved.

“To change everything, we need everyone.” (GRETA THUNBERG)

Donate to help us commission artists.

Your donation allows us to offer $500 commissions for artists to create works that communicate the urgency of the Green New Deal. For every $500 we receive, we will be able to support another artist as they bring the GND to life.
