The Game of Life Reimagined

a cooperative online board game where players build a collective vision of a just and sustainable world on the timeline of the climate clock.

what is life reimagined?

Life Reimagined (LR) parodies the original Game of LIFE to question its vision of life goals (make as much money as possible), and offer an appropriate alternative for our historic moment, based on existing climate justice visions (like the Green New Deal).

LR aims to help everyday people turn climate anxiety into effective climate action, so we can democratically lead a justice-based transition on the timeline of the climate clock (cutting emissions in half by 2030).

why life reimagined?

The climate crisis is intimately connected to many other long standing justice struggles. The causes - and solutions - are often the same:

We must facilitate rapid culture shift from a dominance-based logic to a caregiving-based logic - for people and planet - at every level.

We have to cut emissions in half by 2030 (in 7 years) to avoid the worst aspects of climate chaos.

It’s nearly - but not totally - impossible.

The only unknown variable in whether we achieve a justice-based transition in time is mass movement.

According to Erica Chenoweth,

“No movement has ever failed if it won the active and sustained participation of at least 3.5% of the population.”

Therefore, we hope to reach people, inspire hope, improve self efficacy, learn and practice impactful actions, and work together.

Next version 3.0 coming soon

We are currently working on version 3.0 of the Game of Life Reimagined and we’d love your help!

This is the Game of LIFE 2 (online app): play it to see where we’re getting some inspiration for game mechanics.

game goals for 3.0

Players cooperatively sacrifice and strategize to earn the most SSSweet Life Points (Self, Society, and Sustainability).

Players fill in the social floor (Society) and ecological ceiling (Sustainability) and maintain some personal health (Self) to keep humanity in the safe zone of the doughnut in Doughnut Economics (see below).

Players win all they can with their choices to achieve the best transition by 2030.

This model is our inspiration for how to visually depict the game goals, points, and pathway.
